MySpace Surveys

One of the most popular online tools today is surveys. They're fun to draw up, and fun to fill out. You can use this to your advantage by creating Myspace surveys to post on your Myspace page.

"Why would I want to post Myspace surveys?" You ask.

There are a few good reasons.

First, like I said - they're fun. Although people don't like to be called by telemarketers who are conducting over-the-phone surveys, they have the opposite reaction when it comes to written surveys. It seems that as long as the subject is of interest to them, people enjoy filling them out.

Second, as soon as you have something to do on your Myspace page, it automatically becomes a more interesting place to visit. Posting Myspace surveys on your page can be a tool to make more Myspace friends - which, of course, is the whole point. So how do you go about creating surveys?

Well, it's actually very simple. But there are a few guidelines you should be aware of in order to make your Myspace surveys as enjoyable and fascinating as possible.

1) Subject. The most basic element in creating an interesting survey is to choose subjects that will interest the people who visit your page. There are general interest subjects, like homework, Internet use, how do you spend your free time, etc., and then there are specific interest subjects - things like specific sports, types of music, and specific political interest. Major current events are also a good idea to use as the basis for surveys. Choose your subjects according to your interests, and the general interests of the people who visit your page.

2) Length. If you want people to take your Myspace surveys, then you have to keep them short and sweet. Surveys with more than ten questions will probably make people groan rather than respond. So limit your questions carefully. You might even want to do one-question surveys, like "What's your favorite search engine, Google or Yahoo?"

3) Stick to the subject. If you're writing a survey on ice cream stores, don't include questions about people's favorite radio stations, even though the radio is usually playing in the background when you go to an ice cream store.

4) Don't offend. Make your surveys better and different without taking other people or ethnic groups down. Questions that show bigotry, racism, or a disdain for anyone's opinion other than your own are a real turn-off, and you'll achieve the opposite result of what you wanted.

5) Results. People are curious about the results of surveys they've taken. So when you post a survey, let them know when the results will be posted. If you do a weekly survey, and post the results of the previous one on the day that the new one appears, it'll go a long way towards bringing people back to your Myspace page, over and over again.

Now that you've got the guidelines down, the rest is simple! Choose a subject, and enter it into the heading section. Decide which questions you're going to ask and how many, and enter them one by one as "questions." Click submit, and you're done!

Have fun, and if you have any great survey ideas, feel free to share them with me!
