Where Can I Play RPG Games For Free

The question echoes in your mind as you stare, bored and forlorn, at your bedroom ceiling. Where can I play RPG games for free? Well, the first thing you have to determine is what kind of RPG you're looking for. Role-playing games constitute a wide range of different types of games. There are pen and paper RPG's, and there are computer RPG's. Both have their own benefits to offer.

If you are really sitting in your room saying where can I play RPG games for free, then you probably want to go with the computer versions of these games (because you don't have enough friends to round up for a live version of the game). And you're in luck because there are hundreds of free RPG's to choose from online. If you don't know much about RPG's, and want help deciding which game is right for you, use my game guide. This includes game reviews and descriptions that will tell you what type of game you're looking at. It can help you decide if a game is appropriate for your style. Where can I play RPG games for free? This great site has a whole variety of gaming styles to play. This site contains tons of awesome games with out-of-this-world graphics and fighting options. There are also a few stinkers, but they're a small minority. Choose to play your own game, or join an MMORPG to become a part of a world-wide quest seeking team! If you don't love the first game you try, look at another one. Believe me, with this selection, it won't take you long to find your own personal addiction!

In the phenomenally rare event that you don't find a single game you deem game-worthy on this site (though I'd be extremely surprised, the selection is just that good!), you can always use the search engine on your computer to pull up about a thousand other free RPG's that you can play directly online. Your options are anything but limited.

If the question of where can I play RPG games for free is being proposed to a group of real people (i.e. friends, classmates, family members, imaginary playmates don't count), then here is an entirely different venue of RPG's. Pen and paper role-playing games are an amazingly fun way to spend an evening. Whether you are planning a party for a large group, or you just have a bunch of friends who are tired of the typical movie and a burger weekend, RPG's are a great option. I see the question has shifted from 'where can I play RPG games for free' to 'what medication did this lady forget to take this morning' (and can I have some, please!) Maybe I should explain a little bit. Pen and paper RPG's are actually the origin of all other forms of RPG's in existence today. In a typical PNPRPG, characters are physically played out by a group of people following a pre-determined plot. Your choices and conversations will decide what direction the game takes, and where it will eventually end. You can play out a murder mystery, or a gang war, a political riot, or a European drama, a medieval menagerie, or an outer space mission. Once you start using your imagination, the possibilities are endless!

Now that you have a small picture of what we're talking about (and now that the question has settled away from my daily dosage and back to where can I play RPG games for free!), we can go further into the specifics. Just as in their computer counterparts, PNPRPG's require you to choose characters and develop them throughout the game. This can be as superficial as picking names, genders, and races, and can go as in depth as determining obscure backgrounds, shady profiles, and elusive hobbies.

S.A.V.A.G.E.

An excellent example of this type of game is S.A.V.A.G.E. The game comes complete with a 90 page guide book for you to learn all about the inner workings of RPG gaming and of the private world of S.A.V.A.G.E., as well. Even if the specific premise is one that you are not fond of, this is a great way to get ideas, and learn the basic system of PNPRPG's. S.A.V.A.G.E. also includes great charts at the end of the guidebook to help organize your character, moves, and damages sustained.

Character Development

In this game you choose what species your character is, as well as equipment, armor, weapons, cybernetics, and skills. The birth of each character should take awhile, so set aside plenty of time for this, perhaps even a whole night. Character development only happens once, where as you and your friends can play this game over the course of weeks, months or even years! So take the time on your first meeting to build your characters as deeply and thoughtfully as you can.

Moves and Turn Taking

Once the entire group has created their own unique character, the fun begins. (A little math is required, but don't worry, this isn't rocket science!) Every choice, every action, and ever counter sets into motion a reaction that in turn must be weighed and calculated. For example, if you roll a seven, this gives you a certain number of options. Then, based on your skills, ammo etc. you choose your action. The opponent's stats are then added to the equation as well. When all summed up, the final total is the amount of productivity or damage your turn has produced. Though it sounds complicated now, you and your group will quickly get the hang of it all, and will soon be rattling off answers that any of your teachers would be shocked to see you even attempt.

House Rules

As in any group game, house rules apply. There is leniency built into the game for you and your friends to make decisions about how different items and actions will rank and what point values they will be given. Your friends may like certain aspects better than others, and you can all decide together to give these details more of a focus.

S.A.V.A.G.E. is just one of the many examples of what you can do with a group of creative people interested in really making a fun time of role-playing. If you want some more ideas, or different backdrops in which to play out your game, look at the following site: http://www.homebrew.net/games/. It has a whole list of great RPG's. Not all the games on this list are going to be exactly what you're looking for, but it's a good collection of setting ideas and standard rules for you to go by. Together with the group of people who will be playing, read through a few of the games before settling on one. There are a lot of really fun concepts here, so take some time to weed through them.

Now that it's all out there for you, what are you waiting for? So stop asking where can I play RPG games for free, and start playing!
